China has confirmed its first case of swine flu on the Chinese mainland as the worldwide number of cases rose to 4,379 at the weekend. The World Health Organization says cases have now been confirmed in 29 countries from North America, to Europe and Asia.

Mexico has reported 1,626 laboratory confirmed cases of infection, including 45 deaths, while the United States has reported 2,254 laboratory confirmed cases, including two deaths.

A 30-year-old male student, known only as ‘Bao’, enrolled in the United States has been confirmed as China’s second case of swine flu (or H1N1 virus) and its first on the mainland, according to the Chinese health ministry.
