OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. — Sandy Creek schools will be closed until Wednesday because of a suspected case of the H1N1 flu virus.

District officials say an elementary school student came into the nurse’s office Monday afternoon with flu-like symptoms and a fever. School nurses tested the child for influenza type A and those results were positive, so the school has sent a sample to the state labs in Albany.

“What really got our attention was within an hour’s time, this student’s temperature went from a 101 to a 104. We haven’t had a case of the flu here in the school in the last three weeks,” said Sandy Creek Superintendent of Schools Steward Amell.
