The nursing sister being treated for an arenavirus is still in a serious condition at the Morningside Medi-Clinic, a spokesperson said on Monday. “She is still serious, but stable,” said Melinda Pelser.

KZN radiographer in hospital
A radiographer has been admitted to Durban’s St Augustine’s hospital after displaying symptoms similar to those of the recently identified arenavirus, which led to the deaths of three people in Gauteng in the past three weeks.

“Meanwhile, a second Morningside Clinic nursing sister was admitted on Monday after showing fluctuations in temperature. She is being closely monitored.”
The spokesperson said the results of tests for a fourth person who died, Morningside Medi-Clinic contract cleaner Maria Mokubung, were still awaited. These were expected before the end of the week.
